What is a Student Academic Association?

Associations that are sponsored by a college, school, department or academic center. Their focus is to support and increase student engagement with academic goals.
If you're wondering if your potential group might be an academic association, here are some helpful questions to ask yourself:
"Is the focus of your group to support and increase student engagement with academic goals?"
"Is your group sponsored by a college, school, department, or academic center?"
Examples include:
  • Groups with academic interests related to a field of study, such as family history, prosthetics design, accounting, social innovation, nursing, engineering, philosophy, anthropology, geology, or illustration.
  • Groups affiliated with an external academic association, such as a chapter of a national or international organization
  • Student honor societies such as Phi Kappa Phi or Golden Key
