| Organization Name: | BYU MBA Tech Society |
| Abbreviations: | MBATS |
| Purpose: | Having formed relationships with some of the high tech industry’s leading companies such as Intel, Hewlett-Packard, Dell, and Adobe, the Marriott School has the great opportunity to further enhance its image and reputation within this innovative industry. Following in the footsteps of many other prestigious MBA programs such as Harvard, Kellogg, and Stanford, BYU’s MBA program needs to introduce an MBA Tech Society where students from all disciplines can explore the diverse careers within the high tech industry. As a western-based university located close to high tech centers such as Seattle and Silicon Valley, BYU will be able to provide well-trained, capable MBAs to this industry. Differing from other vertical MBA clubs such as the finance or marketing clubs, the MBA Tech Society will be a ‘horizontal’ club that will draw MBA students from all tracks. The Purposes and Goals of the MBA Tech Society 1. Educate - A core goal of the Club will be to educate MBA students about the various segments and latest trends within the high tech industry. Students will be able to focus on different areas such as software, e-business, biotech, telecommunications, aerospace, etc. depending on their interests year-to-year. 2. Network - Another goal will be to establish a strong network of BYU alumni, faculty, and LDS members who have worked or are working in the high tech industry that students can leverage as they seek to learn about the industry and secure high tech jobs. 3. Equip - The Club will also strive to provide students with the useful tools, resources, and contacts to enhance their employment opportunities within this industry. 4. Market - Another objective of the Club will be to demonstrate to high tech companies and recruiters that there is a critical mass of MBA students at BYU who are interested in the high tech industry and raise the profile of the university within high tech circles. |
